Standing seam means that the side joints of the roof panels are arranged in a vertical position above the roofline. A standing seam roof system is a system in which the side laps between the roof panels are arranged in a vertical position above the roofline.
The roof panel system is secured to the roof substructure by means of concealed hold down clips attached with screws to the substructure, except that through fasteners may be used at limited locations such as ends of panels and at roof penetrations.
MR-24™ roof systems are the most specified standing-seam roofs on the market, with more than 2 billion square feet installed since its introduction in 1969. MR-24™ roofs expand and contract with daily and seasonal temperature changes.
Unless your roof is designed as a system to accommodate this movement, fasteners will loosen on metal roofs, and cracks, blisters, and splits will appear. MR-24™ roof systems will leak because they are built on low slopes, causing ponding water; water is commonly siphoned back in at end laps, and will rust in industrial, corrosive environments.
A standing seam roof is a metal roof that fastens to a structure without holes or penetrations. A standing seam roof acts like a single steel membrane to protect your building.
The greatest advantage of a standing seam roof is the fact that there are the fewest possible penetrations. The roof is fastened to the structure using a mechanical seaming tool known as a "no-clip seamer." This tool bends the metal and forms the final shape and connects to the structure without penetrating the roof.
Over time, seams will open up, penetrations will leak, panels will rust, and the roof will deteriorate. By having Thermal-Tec install the MR Multi-ply® Roof System, you will not only preserve your investment, but will enjoy your peace of mind, worry free roof, for years to come.
